Ground-Based Augmentation  System (GBAS)

With global air travel continuing to rise, airports need to find new ways to handle additional aircraft movements without incurring the costs of building more runways. In addition, airports and airlines are trying to reduce the impact on the environment, such as decreasing air traffic noise and eliminating excessive emission.

SmartPath is the world's first and only certified GBAS and identified by ICAO, FAA and EuroControl as an enabler for improving air traffic capacity.

Features

  • SmartPath provides differential GPS correction and integrity for all satellites in view and approach path information covering all runway ends.
  • Offers a cost-effective precision navigation solution to increase airport capacity, decrease air traffic noise and reduce weather-related delays.
  • SmartPath augments global positioning system (GPS) satellite data and transmits digital guidance information to aircraft that are equipped with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Landing Systems (GLS).
  • Up to 26 arrivals, destined for various runways, can be supported by just one GBAS station.
  • One system installed in a typical airport can yield annual maintenance savings of up to USD $400,000 compared to a single ILS.
